Product Description:
Violet Redmond's family and fortune might be formidable and her beauty and wit matchless—but her infamous flare for mischief keeps all but the most lionhearted suitors at bay. Only Violet knows what will assuage her restlessness: a man who doesn't bore her to tears, and a clue to the fate of her missing brother. She never dreamed she'd find both with a man whose own pedigree is far from impeccable. "Savage" is what the women of the ton whisper about the newly styled Earl of Ardmay—albeit with shivers of pleasure. Born an English bastard, raised on the high seas, he's on a mission to capture a notorious pirate for vengeance. But while Violet's belief in her brother's innocence maddens him, her courage awes him . . . and her sensuality finally undoes him. Now the man who once lost everything and the girl who has everything to lose are bound by a passion that could either end in betrayal . . . or become everything they ever dreamed.

Violet Redmond has had plenty of suitors, but none has come close to capturing the interest of the beautiful and intelligent heiress. When Violet spies Captain Flint, the Earl of Ardmay, across a crowded ballroom, she is intrigued, and more than a little disconcerted by the Earl’s commanding presence and alarmingly good looks. A shared waltz unsettles both of them, and they realize that they have more in common than their physical attraction. This begins “I Kissed an Earl” by Julie Anne Long.
Violet’s older brother, Lyon, has disappeared, taking only a treasured wooden box along with him. Flint is looking for Violet’s brother, seeking vengeance for the death of a dear friend and fellow sea captain. Violet realizes that Flint can lead her to her missing brother, and perhaps help prove that her brother has not become Le Chat, a notorious pirate who has been responsible for the sinking of several ships. When Violet manages to hide aboard Flint’s ship as it sails out from London Harbor, her only thoughts are those of locating and saving her beloved brother from those who wish to find and punish him.
Captain Flint is not happy to find his stowaway, and makes plans to put Violet ashore at the next port until he realizes that she may help lead him to Le Chat. They continue to travel together to several ports, always arriving just behind the departure of Lyon. Lyon realizes that his sister is on his trail and leaves her a cryptic note that helps explain where he is going and what he is doing. Violet is caught between the two men – her brother whom she must help protect, and Flint, with whom she shares a strong and growing attraction.
The tension between Violet and Flint sizzles across the chapters and fairly arcs right off the page. Julie Anne Long knows how to build anticipation, and I Kissed an Earl doesn’t disappoint. The parallel stories of Violet and Flint’s romance and the search for Le Chat are interwoven perfectly, and the story flows perfectly from one page to the next. I Kissed an Earl is rich with detail and emotion, along with a dose of suspense and intrigue, wonderfully balanced and wonderfully written. Absolutely delicious!

Disagree: (2010-09-05)
I have to disagree. I found this book extremely hard to read. I kept putting it down for a few days before picking up again. I couldn't like Violet no matter how many chances I gave her. The Earl was just the same. And the ending? What ending? It was just so very flat...just like the entire book.
Great writing, poor editing: (2010-09-02)
I would've given this book four, even five stars if it wasn't for the poor editing. It had its fair share of typos and inaccuracies in the way titled characters were addressed. The writing, however, was excellent, the plot well paced, and the characters developed. If you can overlook the flaws, the book is worthwhile. I hope Ms. Long gets a new editor for Lyon's book!
I Kissed an Earl: Pennyroyal Green Series: (2010-08-19)
I liked this book. It started slow but than picked up and Long did a fine job with the story. I want to read the first book in the series now and can't wait for Lyon's story. I quite like the main character's as I hate wimpy leading ladies. Though Violet is selfish, she is strong and extremely loyal. We also have to remember this is set when a woman had to take the bull by the horns or she got run over.
Liked it but...: (2010-08-14)
I liked the book, good read, slow at times, but overall good. However, what I didn't like is that we hardly know what the earl is thinking. I think it needed some more of his perspective.
Too haughty heroine: (2010-08-11)
Julie Ann Long is one of the authors whose book I'll hesitate to pick up in the future. After reading Perils of Pleasure, I had really high hopes. Colin and Madeline were very memorable. But none of the books since then have interested me much. I read about 24 pages of this book and the heroine just completely put me off. She is so haughty and proud and utterly "oh so mighty", you wonder why this woman is a lead and why authors think such unlikeable characters will make a great read. Frankly, when I don't care for a lead character, I am not interested in their story. I liked the hero though, but dislike for the heroine superceded everything else. He deserves someone much better than this one.If the heroine had simply been a different, slightly more humble personality, I think it would have made some difference. DID NOT FINISH.
